Teaching The Game of Life – Feet – What Did our Ancestors do to take care of them

Welcome! Hope everyone had a great Easter and Passover. We are celebrating Easter this weekend with our family.

Promoting You’re Amazing And I’ll Prove It! has been incredibly challenging. Although it has been thrilling to find how many people have come out of the woodwork to help us on our journey, it has been a very long one. But recently we met Elizabeth Miles through her Power to Pivot podcast. In talking to her, she suggested that we change the name of the book. Elizabeth didn’t give us any suggestions on what to change it to, but her reasoning behind it made sense. So we got out what used to be You’re Amazing and told ourselves that the title must be in here somewhere.

As the book is laid out now, just a few pages from the front there is a door with the words on it, The Doorway To Knowledge and Freedom. Because of this, the new title of the book is The Doorway. We are still playing with the subtitle.

Now for this week’s story:

One of the things that I have always been able to do is to see value in other people. Because of this when I was a young boy I liked to hang out with older people. I figured that they had wisdom that comes with time and I could save time by learning this wisdom from them. The reason I am writing this blog series, Teaching The Game of Life, is to pass on some of the knowledge I have accumulated during my 62 years to everyone.

What Did Our Ancestors do to Take Care of Their Feet – One of the things that we tend to ignore until we finally have problems with them is our feet. If we do not take care of them as we age we can start to get fungus growing under our toenails. Once this fungus starts growing, it can be difficult to get rid of. If you go to the doctor, they will tell you to use some ridiculously expensive medical ointment.

As an inventor and an amateur historian the question I have is, “What did our ancestors do for foot fungus before this ridiculously expensive medical ointment was available?” I am not a doctor, so I can’t tell you this is something you should do, but I can tell you what our ancestors did and what I do for foot fungus.

Although corporations have been teaching us we need them for everything, we don’t need to buy the expensive corporations’ medicine. Many of our ancestors used simple Apple Vinegar and for this reason I also use it. I put some vinegar in a spray bottle and after a shower or washing up, before putting my socks on, I spray my feet. I make sure to get between my toes and all around and under my toe nails as possible. Vinegar can be drying to your skin so I only use it 2 times a week.

Another thing I do, although it is not necessary to do very often to insure no fungus gets started under my toe nails, I soak my feet in a pan of vinegar for 20 minutes. Soaking my feet insures the vinegar can work its’ way as far as possible under my toenails.

Last but not least, although our ancestors didn’t do this, because the ointment was not available, I use a vapor rub like Vick’s. Vapor rubs cost a fraction of the ointments the corporations want us to buy and if I buy a generic brand I save even more money. I simply rub the vapor rub all over my feet. I work it around my toenails making sure to work it under the front edge to help prevent any fungus from getting started. If you would like to help prevent fungus problems with your feet, you might want to use these techniques. You may also want to teach your loved ones how to take care of their feet. You never know how important your feet are until you are having problems with them.
