Last Saturday we celebrated two of our grandsons birthdays. They were born 4 years and 1 day apart, so they celebrate their birthdays together. This year we went to a local roller skating rink that also has many other things to do like bumper cars and laser tag, etc. We had a great time.

Now for this week’s story:

The following is a con game that many politicians are running. I call it The Security Blanket Con.
For many years our government schools have been teaching our kids that they should not try to succeed. They are told not to be their very best. Our kids are being taught that all they need to do is participate and that is great. Well, I am here to say the government schools, from the moment our kids start school as a 4 or 5 year old all the way through their college years, are not only wrong, they are profoundly hurting our kids.

I wrote about this in my blog Grandma’s Fish Pond. However, I have been trying to figure out other ways I can explain why my stance that teaching our kids to only participate is hurting them. Every time I write something and try to explain it to my readers, I try to come up with scenarios that you can use to teach other people. So, here goes, I hope the following will help you explain why the government security blanket is a con. We must teach our kids to be responsible for themselves and know how to survive in our society.

The first scenario that I will give you comes from the space program. When an astronaut goes into outer space, there is no gravity. Because of this, their bodies are free to do whatever they want to do. They can float around and they don’t have to worry about gravity inhibiting their freedom.

However, everything has good and bad points. So this so-called freedom comes at a price, which means it is not free at all. After all, free means free, it doesn’t mean that you have to pay some price for it. So what is the price that our astronauts pay to be free from gravity? Without gravity all the muscles in the body start to atrophy. You see you don’t need muscles in zero gravity. So you lose what you don’t need.
The astronauts also lose bone mass causing tremendous premature osteoporosis. When they come back to earth if they have spent enough time in outer space, their freedom from gravity has made it so they can’t even stand up back here on earth. So essentially this freedom has made them cripples.

Interestingly enough, once they are back dealing with the limitations of gravity, with exercise they get their muscle mass back and can reverse at least part of the osteoporosis. So by being limited by gravity, we grow stronger and more self-reliant.

The second scenario that I will give you is, all you have to do is to go back 100 years max. At this time of history and going back through all of history, you will find that the people in the family had to work together. One person would gather the wood that they needed for the stove. Another person would do the cooking. Another person would do the hunting. Someone would draw the water and they would rotate these essential chores along with many other chores. This meant that everybody learned the necessities needed to survive in their environment.

According to the definition of freedom that our government schools are teaching our kids today, our ancestors had no freedom at all. I mean, do you think for one second that if a member of the family didn’t pull their weight, they didn’t hear about it? Of course they got in trouble. Their lack of pulling their weight jeopardizes the entire family. Let’s face it, the entire family could die. The kids had to be responsible for themselves and they had to learn how to survive.

You also have to consider that if there is a member of the family that is not learning the things they need to do in order to survive, if something happens to the rest of the family, they won’t be able to survive.
So which is freedom? Being able to survive on your own if you had to, or being totally dependent on someone who could easily take everything away from you?

The third scenario to me is frightening. Lady Linda and I personally know a family that is not rich, but they taught their son that he did not even have to participate. He lives in the parents’ basement. He will pick up a job (pizza delivery boy, etc.) here or there until he gets bored with it and then just quit. He has literally no responsibility. This means he’s free, right?

Remember, I told you that we personally know this family. So what I’m telling you is from personal interaction. The son of this family is mentally capable of being a successful and productive member of our society. But because he has not been challenged and everything has been given to him, he hasn’t grown. He is a child.

They cater to his every whim, to the point of one day Linda and I went over to their home. The child was literally dancing around the kitchen. This child was normally very unhappy and depressed, so when we saw him dancing around the kitchen, we asked him what was going on. He said, and this is a quote, “Mom and Dad have gone away. So I can have a party.” I’m thinking to myself, this child is still in high school. If something happens to Mom and Dad, who you remember are not rich and cannot leave him a ton of money, he won’t have a clue how to survive. I mean he was literally acting like he was still in high school.
Now you might be wondering why I am telling you about this particular child. Well it’s not because he’s unique. Unfortunately Linda and I know of a number of children living in their parents’ basements. These other children are in their 30’s doing nothing with their lives, not growing and learning and being totally dependent on someone else while they are not pulling their own weight. Well the reason I am telling you about this particular child is because he epitomizes where these 30 year old’s are going, as well as the rest of our children who are not being challenged. The child who was dancing around the kitchen because Mommy and Daddy were on vacation and he was going to have a party is now in his 50’s. You read that right, this child is more than 50 years old.

The so-called freedom that his parents have given him has made him a total cripple and he will continue to be a cripple for the rest of his life. After all, it used to be that kids started learning how to survive in their environment, the moment they could help the family do anything. But because we have allowed the government schools to take the challenges away from our kids, as well as many parents buying into the lie that you are free if you have no challenges, our kids are not growing.

So I find it very interesting that lack of:
Lack of – Gravity leads to the body atrophying
Lack of – Learning your environment with the family leads to your death (atrophying to the point of death)
Lack of – Having responsibility is leading to 50 year old children that cannot survive on their own. (This is most definitely atrophying)

So as you can see, this Security Blanket Con Game is hurting our kids tremendously. That is exactly what this con is designed to do. It is time we not only speak up and tell the government to give us school choice, but we must start teaching our kids to always do their very best. We must teach them to be responsible for themselves and learn everything they need to survive in our society. Teach everyone what freedom truly is.
