Hello everybody, hope you all are doing well. This coming Friday, November 8, I am excited to be a guest on the Heroes Like You podcast which is hosted by Joe Belliston. It is not a live interview, so I will let you know when the episode will be aired. In the meantime, feel free to go to www.heroeslikeyou.com and listen to his other episodes. Joe’s podcast is about suicide prevention and helping individuals with their challenges in life. He is helping a lot of people. If you know anyone that needs to be lifted, they should listen to Joe’s podcast.
I also want to give a shout-out to the many authors that are following my progress. I know that we’re all trying to figure this thing out together, how we should market a self-published book. So, I was thinking that the corporations and the government have the resources to have people figure this stuff out for them. Without question, that’s an advantage. But it’s not as big an advantage as us small authors helping each other out. If anyone has a question on anything we are doing to market the book, please ask and we’ll tell you. At the same time tell us what you’re doing and we’ll figure this thing out together. Please feel free to contact me through the contact page on this site.
You Can Learn From Anywhere!
One of the things I teach in my You’re Amazing And I’ll Prove It! classes is that you can learn from anyone, anything, or any situation. This is one of the things I have learned in my 61 years on this planet.
Case in point, when I was a young man I followed pro basketball quite closely. At that time there was a player by the name of Bernard King. Bernard was a brilliant scorer. For many years before he injured his knee, he was virtually unstoppable. One superstar basketball player after another tried to stop him from scoring and could not. When one player couldn’t stop Bernard, they tried one team defense after another. Night after night, game after game, he just ate up the defenses. You’re probably saying, “there are many players over the years that have been unstoppable scorers, so what makes Bernard stand out?”
The answer to this question is consistency. You see, Bernard was known for playing one incredible game after another and it made no difference whether the game was an unimportant game or a championship game. Bernard always played at the top of his game. I marveled at his ability to bring his best game every game. I also wondered how he did it. I asked myself if there was something he was doing that I could use to enhance my game, as well as my performance in life. I watched and watched trying to figure it out. It was obvious he practiced all the time. Always trying to better his game. But all the NBA players practice constantly so why was Bernard so consistent when most of the others were not?
Then one day I got my answer in a simple little interview in which a reporter asks Bernard, “Bernard you are known for your incredible consistency, how do you do it?” He looked at the reporter and said, “Preparation!” He continued, “I prepare mentally for every game exactly the same way, regardless whether the game is a big game or not.”
This is exactly what I was looking for. Bernard had just given me the information I needed, not only for my basketball game, but also for any situation in life in which I want to be at my best. I had already been preparing physically. However, because of the information that I learned from Bernard King, I then started preparing mentally for every game. I meditated every night. I didn’t meditate just on game nights, I meditated every night during the season. During the off season I meditated some, but during the season it was every night. My game improved immensely. As my life has marched on, I never forgot the lesson Bernard had taught me. I do everything in my power to physically prepare for whatever event that is coming up in my life, and at the same time, mentally prepare by meditating.
See what I mean, you can learn from anyone, anything, or any situation. Who would have thought I would learn such a valuable life lesson from a basketball player?
So, the next time you have something you want or need to be at your very best, physically prepare in every way you can and at the same time mentally prepare.
