Learn The Game of Life – The Importance of SLEEP

Welcome! Neal- The Crazy Inventor here. Like everyone, from time to time, we all struggle with technology. As we told you last week, we have been wanting to test the new covers of You’re Amazing And I’ll Prove It! – Simple Analogies To Unlock Your Life! that Erin made for us and the one that I made to see which one we are going to move forward with.

However, it took until Monday night to figure out an issue that we had. Then we were able to start testing the covers. We should have a cover to show you next week.

For those of us in the Northeast, we hope that you are safe after the snowstorm.

Now for this week’s story:

One of the things that I have always been able to do is to see value in other people. Because of this when I was a young boy I liked to hang out with older people. I figured that they had wisdom that comes with time and I could learn this wisdom at a younger age by learning from them. The reason I am writing this blog series, Learn The Game of Life, is to pass on some of the knowledge I have accumulated during my 62 years of life to everyone.

The Importance of SLEEP – I was watching a fascinating documentary on sleep. Basically it boils down to this. The brain has no blood flow in which to clean itself. For this reason the brain during your waking hours is becoming more and more toxic. This is the reason your brain is so cloudy and your thinking is murky when you are tired. However, when you sleep, the brain goes through different sleep/dream cycles in which it cleans itself.

If you do not get enough sleep the brain is not functioning at it’s peak. As you know, the brain is the computer that tells everything in your body what to do. The more tired you are the worse your brain performs.

Sleep is also vital for you physically. When you exercise your muscles are breaking down until they are so tired they can’t do anything more. When you sleep, on the other hand, your body is working hard to rebuild your muscles. If you don’t get adequate sleep, your body doesn’t have enough time to completely rebuild your muscles. This, in return, means without enough sleep your body doesn’t fully recover and over a period of time will break down completely. This is true especially for people starting in their thirties and then moving forward in life.

However, I have also learned that sleep is vital from my own experiences. All of us know that the more tired you are the harder it is to think. But what many of us do not know is the second part. Without enough sleep the body never fully recovers and eventually will give out completely. When the body gives out completely many times your body will never recover the health you once had.

I know this from several personal experiences. The one that is closest to me is my father. My father was a man who pushed himself beyond his limits and as he grew older didn’t get the sleep and rest he needed. Because of this his body broke down and he developed Myasthenia Gravis, a form of Muscular Dystrophy. His health was never even close to what it was before his body broke.

Lady Linda used to work in Nashville with some of the Country Stars. Two of the Stars and one of her friends also pushed too hard without enough sleep and their bodies broke down. They have never recovered their health.

And for this blog, last but not least, is Michael Flatley who is the creator of RiverDance, an incredible Broadway Irish Dance Musical and Feet of Flames, an Irish Dance Musical that he took on a world tour. Michael is the most amazing dancer I have ever seen. I could watch him every day and I don’t like dance. Michael worked himself too hard for too long without enough sleep and rest. His body broke and his health has never been the same.

So as you move forward in life, make sure you get enough sleep. It is vital to your health and your decision making. I know there are times when it feels like you have to keep going and can’t stop what you’re doing. For these occasions you have to remind yourself that if you get some sleep you will be more efficient. This in return, will get the job done faster and easier. If not, your body will break down, you will destroy your health, and you will never achieve your goal.

In the words of our brilliant editor, Susan Uttendorfsky, “Remember life is not a sprint it is a marathon.” Get some sleep!
